Escanaba 10u, 12u Hockey Teams Win State Titles

ESCANABA---The Escanaba Junior Hockey Association is home to two state champions, after the 10u Squirt team and the 12u Pee Wee team both dominated their way to championships on Sunday in Lower Michigan.  The 10u Squirt team won their championship in the Detroit suburb of Brighton, outscoring their opponents, 39-6, along the way. About a half-hour later, on the other side of the state, the 12u Pee Wee team won its state title, with Nick Martinson scoring seven of his team's ten goals in a 10-3 win over Traverse City. That group of boys (and two girls) won a state title in 2020 as well. Escanaba's 14u Bantam team will try to make it three Hawls state championships when they play in the state tournament next weekend in Ironwood. And another Upper Peninsula hockey team won a state title on Sunday, as the Portage Lake Flyers Pee Wee A team won its tournament in Kalamazoo, beating the Saginaw Spirit, 7-1, in the championship game.
