GRAND RAPIDS---
Aquinas baseball head coach Chris LaMange has announced the signing of a junior college transfer to the Saints' 2020 recruiting class.

Lucas Weinert of Gladstone has joined the AQ program after playing most recently at Bay College. Weinert competed at Bay after playing his prep ball at Gladstone High School. Weinert was named an all-district selection as both a junior and senior at Gladstone, while earning the team's best defensive player award during both seasons.

As a sophomore, he was named the team's most improved player.

"Lucas will be an excellent addition to our team. We're excited to have someone with his college experience that can add depth to our infield," LaMange mentioned. "Lucas has been teammates with many of our current players in summer ball and has been one of the most consistent hitters on the Manistee Saints team each summer. We are looking forward to Lucas getting on campus and starting his career here at AQ."

In addition to the individual awards, Weinert helped Gladstone capture a number of team titles. The program won four district championships in four years and notched regional titles in 2015, 2016, and 2018. Gladstone also advanced to the state semifinals in 2015 and 2018.

A four-year varsity letterwinner, Weinert spent two years at Bay College and has played two seasons of summer league college ball for the Manistee Saints. He also was a three-year varsity cross country runner and played one season of varsity football at Gladstone.

Planning to major in exercise science, Weinert said of his decision to attend AQ: "I am excited to continue my education and have the opportunity to keep playing baseball".
