DAYLONG GRIND: Ten Golf Teams Shoot 36 Holes
HARRIS---Men's golf teams from ten universities competed in two full rounds of golf on Sunday at the Island Resort Intercollegiate event at the Sage Run Golf Course in Harris. Nine of the teams are NCAA-Division One schools, with Northern Michigan University being the only D-2 school in the field. The tournament was started by South Dakota State University Coach Casey VanDamme, who graduated from Mid Peninsula High School. The Purdue Boilermakers have a four-stroke lead over East Carolina heading into Monday's final round. Liberty University is in third place, one stroke behind East Carolina. Central Florida is fourth, three strokes behind Liberty, and Michigan State is in fifth place, 16 srokes out of first place in the team score. Northern Michigan University is in last place after the first two rounds. NMU's top golfer was senior Chris Black, who moved here from Belfast, Northern Ireland. He shot rounds of 78 and 77, and is at eleven over par for the tournament, and is tied for 63rd place. Pouliot shot rounds of 80 and 78, and is tied for 68th at 14-over par. He is tied with Wildcat teammate Kurtis Fontinha with a 36-hole score of 158. One highlight for Detroit, however, was Douglas's teammate, Drew Tucci, who dropped in a hole-in-one. It's the first ace that Tucci has ever had. Michigan State University's James Piot and Purdue University's Joe Weller are tied for the individual lead at six under par. Three other golfers enter Monday's final round one stroke back at -5: Kieran Vincent (Liberty), Clement Charmasson (Central Florida), and Tim Bunten (East Carolina). Purdue's Nick Dentino is at -4.
