Marquette Gymnastics Team Learning On The Fly

MARQUETTE---The Marquette High School girls gymnastics team is young, but enthusiastic, as the 2018-19 season gets under way.

The Redettes finished second at the Escanaba Invitational last Wednesday, and first year coach Bridget Johnson is excited by what she's seen so far.

"We've got nine girls, and a really young team," Johnson said. "We've got two seniors, five sophomores, and two freshmen. We were looking toward the future. I'm really happy to be here. We're nervous, but we're excited. We've worked a lot on our form and execution."

Marquette is led by Haddie Ketzenberger, who finished second in the All-Around last Wednesday. She also took second in the floor, bars and in the beam events, and ended up third in the vault.

"She went to states last year, so I'm hoping that happens again," Johnson said. "I'm expecting good things."

Marquette's Kaitlyn Berandt was fourth in both the floor and beam last week, and Julia King took fifth place in the beam.

Marquette is off for the rest of the holiday break, before hosting its first home meet on Jan. 4. The Redettes will travel to Negaunee on Jan. 9.
