Escanaba High School Getting Gym Floor Upgrades
ESCANABA---The Escanaba High School will be getting a new floor in its gym.
Escanaba Athletic Director Nick Nolde says that the help comes mostly from the Eskymo Fan Club, which will be doinating $30,000. Meijer will be donating $3,700 to the project, which Nolde says will be done this summer. "It hasn't been done in over 20 years, so it's definitely time," Nolde said. "Those who have been in the high school gym in Escanaba, relative to other gyms in the area, you can difinitely tell that it's a needed facelift. We're excited about it." He says the design will be done by the same Grand Rapids company that did Gladstone High School’s new gym floor. The Escanaba School Board approved moving forward on the project at Monday night's meeting. Nolde says the fan club will also be helping to put new lights in the gym, and a future project is to replace the gym’s bleachers. "We're going to have a nice new design," Nolde said. "Similar to what Gladstone did with theirs. We'll have a different-color stain inside the three-point line area. We'll redo our logo at center court. So, it's gonna look really sharp." HOCKEY CO-OP RENEWED---The Escanaba School Board voted, 4-2, Monday, to renew the district's co-op agreement with the Gladstone Schools for boys hockey. The agreement has been in place since the 1990's, but needs to be renewed every two years. Click the AUDIO button above to hear our interview with Nolde. |
