Northern Begins Basketball Season With Two Wins
HOUGHTON---The Northern Michigan University men's basketball team beat the University of Wisconsin Parkside, 83-68, on Sunday, at the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge in Houghton, to open the 2017-18 season with a 2-0 record. It is the first time since the 2008-09 season that the Wildcats started a season 2-0. Junior Naba Echols led all scorers with 27 points, shooting 10 of 14 from the field, including three three-pointers. He also dished out three assists. On Saturday, NMU picked up a 79-78 win over Lewis (Ill) University as Will Carius hit the game-winning three-pointer as time expired to lift the Wildcats. Sam Taylor had 25 points, including five triples. Isaiah Johnson added 20 points for NMU. ---NMU Photo of Carius' winning shot |
