Mid Pen Schools Apply For West Pac Memberships

Five high schools that currently compete in the Mid Peninsula Conference have applied for membership in the West PAC Conferene. Athletic Directors met on Wednesday to talk about it. This press release about the meeting is from Calumet AD Sean Jacques:

The WestPAC Schools (Calumet, Hancock, Houghton, L’Anse, and West Iron County) held our regularly scheduled October meeting today, Wednesday, October 18th.

Included in the agenda was a review and action on the applications submitted by Gwinn, Iron Mountain, Ishpeming, Negaunee, and Westwood High Schools for full conference membership in the WestPAC Conference.

A lot of great discussion took place and in the end, the WestPAC voted to preliminarily approve the addition of all five schools into the conference with contingencies.

The most important contingency is being able to create schedules for all schools involved.  Each sponsored sport presents unique scheduling challenges that must be discussed and approved before the membership applications are finalized.

To put it another way, the hard work of planning and molding this larger-scale WestPAC into a viable conference for all involved school is the next task at hand.

I have been in contact with all of the applicants, and each of them is appreciative for the opportunity, and are willing to work hard to make this a reality.

There is no firm timeline for finalization, but we will be scheduling a meeting for early November to begin the task of working out the details.
