Wykons Emerge With G.N.C Tennis Championship

ESCANABA---The West Iron County girls tennis team edged three other squads to win the Great Northern Conference championship Friday in Escanaba and Gladstone.

The Wykons ended up with 15 points, one point better than Munising, Menominee, and Kingsford, all of whom tied with 14 points. Marquette finished with 12 points, while Escanaba tallied seven points and Gladstone finished with four points.

The conference meet was played a day late, after rain soaked the courts on Thursday.

The Upper Peninsula Finals are next Wednesday in Iron Mountain for Division Two schools, and next Thursday in Negaunee for Division One schools.
