NORSE: Bay College Unveils Sports Mascot, Logos

ESCANABA---The Bay College Department of Athletics has announced their nickname and Athletics logo as part of a branding and marketing initiative beginning in advance of Athletics beginning on campus in 2017. The school will be known as the Bay College Norse.

Bay partnered with SignUP of Escanaba for the development of the new athletics logo.

“I am excited for this announcement of our new graphic identity program, which I think is both a modern appearance and something that fits within the Bay College tradition,” said Matt Johnson, director of athletics. “I think our new family of logos will be well-received by our alumni, fans, Bay College community and most importantly, our student-athletes.”

With the reinstatement of the Athletic Department, for the 1st time since 1978, this branding initiative and logo redesign will help standardize the logos and help promote a consistent look amongst the College’s four intercollegiate athletic teams.

Men’s and Women’s basketball and Men’s and Women’s cross country will begin competition during the Fall of 2017. The new logos are a reflection of comments by community members, staff, and students who participated in the process of branding the Athletic Department.

“Bay College received a number of suggestions from the community, college employees, college and high school students,” said Dr. Laura Coleman, President. “We picked Norse because it has a direct relationship with the Norseman which was the teams name in the 1960s and 70s."

Throughout the remainder of the summer, the new logo will begin to appear at a number of athletic department facilities, apparel, and recruiting materials. For the latest on Bay College Athletics, follow the Norse via social media on Twitter and Facebook. For more information, contact the Office of Athletics at 906-217-4134 or go to www.baycollege.edu/athletics.
