Menominee Allows No Hits; Loses State Title Game

ADRIAN, Mich.----It's not often that you give up no base hits, and lose a baseball game.

But that's what happened to the Menominee Red Wave American Legion Baseball team on Sunday, as the boys lost in the Class A State Championship Game in downstate Adrian.

Menominee's two pitchers allowed no base hits, but seven walks and three errors led Hudson to a 2-1 win. The result ended a remarkable run for a Menominee team that finished third in the U.P.

Nathan Nowack pitched four innings and Mike Pulver tossed the final two innings for the Red Wave, and they combined to allow no base hits. But the host team from southern Lower Michigan still held a 2-0 lead until Menominee tried to rally in the top of the seventh inning.

Andrew Leinonen walked, and with one out, Adam Nolde and Kaleb Kleiman each got base hits to load the bases. Pulver's sacrifice fly scored the first run, but with two runners on, Sam Larson's ground ball ended the game, and Hudson celebrated a state championship at Siena Heights University...about 15 miles away from their small southern Michigan community.
