'16 High School Track Season Opens Inside Dome
MARQUETTE---The boys and girls high school track and field season got started Tuesday as the Marquette High School hosted the Division One Meet inside the Superior Dome. The Division Two meet is set for Wednesday, and the giant D-3 meet is Thursday.

In the boys meet, Marquette was the winner with 90 points, while Kingsford was second with 69 points and Houghton was third with 56-and-a-half points. Locally, the Gladstone Braves took sixth with 41 points and Escanaba was eighth with 30 points.

For the girls, Marquette dominated with 112 points, while Sault Ste. Marie took second with 56, one point better than third place Houghton. Locally, the Escanaba Eskymoswere sixth with 34 points and the Gladstone Braves were in seventh with 32.

BOYS INDIVIDUAL RESULTS---Gladstone's T.J. Vanderlinden was second in the 55-meter race in 6.90 seconds, and Escanaba's Logan Carroll was third in 6.93. Kingsford's Trevor Roberts won the event in 6.40 seconds. Gladstone's 800-meter boy's relay team finished third, behind Kingsford and Menominee.

In the 1600 meter race, Escanaba's Joey Wolfe took fourth, finishing in 4:50.57. In the 200, Gladstone's Vanderlinden and Spence Husbye finished third and fourth, respectively, in 24:87 and 25:01 seconds.

In the 3200, Wolfe was third in 10 minutes, 50.45 seconds. Marquette's Lance Rambo won the event in 10:17.59, and Negaunee's Ethan Wallner was second.

Gladstone's Joe Gibbs was third in the high jump (5-feet-10 inches). In the pole vault, Escanaba's Charlie Zuidema was second and Hunter Royer was third, behind Saulr Ste. Marie's Patrick Rambo. Gladstone's Kyle MxKenzie finished fourth in the pole vault.

And Gladstone's Mason Frederick was third overall in the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 10.50 inches.

GIRLS INDIVIDUAL RESULTS---Escanaba's Sunny Martineau won the championship in the 55-meter hurdles, with a time of nine seconds flat.

In the 1600 meter race, Gladstone's Leigha Woelffer was third, finishing in 5 minutes, 48.14 seconds. Marquette's Amber Huebner was first in that distance event (5:35.48) and Negaunee's Clara Johnson was second.

Woelffer took second place in the 3200 meter run, finishing in 12 minutes, 29.39 seconds. Marquette's Rebecca McNamee won the event in 12:25.77.

Escanaba's Maddy Willis was fourth in the 400 and fifth in the 200, while Eskymo teammate Megan Marenger was fourth in the 800.

In the high jump, Gladstone's Sydney Mills took third place with a jump of 4-feet-8 inches. And Gladstone's Saige Sisson was second in the shot put (32 feet, 5.5 inches).
