Delta County Wrestlers Compete At Brute Nationals
INDEPENDENCE, Mo.---Three Delta County youth wrestlers placed at the Brute National Championships in Missouri last weekend. Escanaba third grader Owen Segorski (pictured) was the Brute national runner-up and All-American in the 65-pound weight class. He beat a boy from Oklahoma on a tech fall in the Round of 16, topped a boy from Illinois, 14-6, in the quarterfinals, and then Segorski won an 11-4 decision over a Nebraska third grader in the semifinals. In the championship match, Segorski lost, 6-2, to Ryker Graff of Iowa. Gladstone fourth grader Austin Solis finished in third place in the 65-pound weight class and was also a Brute All-American. Solis defeated Hayden Girty of Oklahoma on a pin in just 13 seconds in the third place match. Solis took second place earlier this month at the Michigan Youth Wrestling Association (MYWA) state championships in the 67-pound weight class. Escanaba first grader Brody Bellefeuil placed seventh in the 49-pound weight class, beating Jace Antoine of Missouri on a pin in 1:44 in the seventh place match on Sunday. |
