Wolverines Season Ends With Loss To Forest Park
NEGAUNEE---The Mid Peninsula Wolverines had their season come to an end Monday night after the Forest Park Trojans posted a 73-45 victory in the Class D regional semifinals in Negaunee. Top-ranked North Central beat Lake Linden-Hubbell, 79-54, in the other semifinal. Mid Pen had an early lead at 4-2 when Damian Richmond scored inside, and Dooner Englund had a steal and scored on a layup in the other direction. The Trojans then blew out to a 21-8 lead, but the underdog Wolverines closed to within 21-15 at the end of the first quarter as Englund nailed a long three-point basket. The Trojans pulled away from there to improve to 22-2 on the season. Mid Peninsula's season ended with a 14-10 record. Connor Kezerlie and Billy Ragio each scored 16 points to lead Forest Park, while Daniel Nocerini added ten points. The Wolverines got 14 points from Englund and 13 from Richmond. Terry Brower added seven points in the losing effort. Forest Park and North Central will play for the regional championship Wednesday night. CLASS C: NORWAY KNIGHTS PUSH PAST BOYNE CITY, 57-47 In Escanaba Monday night, the Norway Knights had the lead over the downstate team throughout most of the Class C Regional Semifinal game. The Knights led, 10-8, after the first quarter, and 25-15 at halftime. The lead grew to as many as 15 points in the second half. Josh Plante led the Knights with 21 points, and he made 11 of 12 free throw attempts. Bryce Grayvold added 13 points and Connor Ortman chipped in ten points. Boyne City (13-11) was led by Luke Sage with 15 points, and Derek Willis scored 11. Norway improved to 14-9 on the season and will play Westwood (11-12) in the regional championship game Wednesday night in Escanaba. That will be a battle of teams that finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Mid Peninsula Conference. |
