Wonders Helps #2 Mountaineers Slip Past Eskymos
ESCANABA---The Escanaba Eskymos played much better than a 4-8 team Tuesday night, but the Upper Peninsula's second-ranked team found a way to avoid the upset. Iron Mountain senior All-State candidate Carson Wonders scored 29 points, including ten in the third quarter, to help the Mountaineers turn back the Eskymos, 60-54. Iron Mountain had its lead grow to ten points again by the end of the third quarter, woth Wonders leading the way. The Eskymos kept battling down the stretch, closing to within three late in the game. But Wonders was solid at the free throw line to put it away. The Eskymos got 18 points from Ryan Robinette. Danny Van Effen added 15 points, and Tyler Willette chipped in with ten. Besides Wonders' 29 points, Kyle Johnson scored 13 points and Tanner Huotari added ten for the Mountaineers.
