Gladstone Cheerleaders Take Braves Invitational

GLADSTONE---The Gladstone High School competitive cheerleading team took first place at the Braves Invitational on Saturday.

The Braves trailed Kingsford by 2 1/2 points after the first round, but they won both the second and third rounds to take the invitational trophy.

There were seven teams in this varsity event.

Gladstone finished with 694.16 points, while the Flivvers were second with 690.12. Escanaba finished third with 681.32 points, and Manistique was fourth with 677.34. Norway was fifth (659.58), Iron Mountain was sixth (625.32), and Marquette was seventh with 331.68 points. The Redettes did not have a score for the third round.

As for the Braves-Flivvers battle, Kingsford won the first round, 219.8-217.4. But the Braves won the second round, 199.36-193.52 to take the lead. Gladstone edged Kingsford in the third round, 277.4-276.8 to win the match by just over four points.

There was also a middle school division at Saturday's event. Escanaba Middle School took first place with 432.22 points. Holy Name Catholic School was second with 401.62, and the Gladstone Middle School cheerleaders finished third with 382.18 points.
