Eskymos, Alpena Wildcats Split Softball Twinbill
 ESCANABA---The Escanaba Eskymos wrapped up a brief four-game homestand on Friday by splitting a doubleheader with the Alpena Wildcats. The Eskymos pulled out a 1-0 decision in the opener, before falling in the nightcap, 8-5, at Lemmerand Park. In the first game, it was tied at 0-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Braedyn Bosilovatz got a base hit. Ashley Cook ran for her, and things got interesting when Kayli VanEffen's ground ball was thrown away by the Alpena infielder.

Codi Jenshak earned the seven-inning shutout pitching victory. She also had a double and a triple at the plate during Friday's doubleheader. In the nightcap, the Eskymos jumped to a 3-1 lead with VanEffen on the mound. But the Wildcats rallied, helped along by a couple of Escanaba defensive mistakes. Alpena tied the game in the seventh inning, then scored five runs in the eighth inning to win the game. Escanaba is back in action on Saturday, playing three games in the Ashwaubenon Invitational in suburban Green Bay. The Eskymos will face the host Jaguars in the morning opener. Escanaba is the only U.P. team entered in that eight-team tournament.
