WELLS---The Escanaba High School hockey team rebounded from Friday's rough loss by dominating the Midland Dow Chargers, 6-0, Saturday afternoon at the Wells Sports Complex.

Senior Graham Johnson led the way with a three-goal hat trick, and he added an assist. Fellow senior Nolan Bink added a goal and an assist, and senior Ben Sands had two assists.

The Eskymos' special teams were special, with five of their goals coming that way: three of them on the power play, and two of them shorthanded.

Hank Sholten and Chase Korpi both had goals as the freshmen continue to contribute to the Eskymo attack in the early part of this season.

Escanaba came out firing in the first period after receiving a tongue-lashing Friday night, outshooting the Chargers, 20-4.

The Eskymos jumped to a 3-0 lead on goals by Korpi, Bink, and Johnson. In the second period, Johnson had the only goal, and in the third period, Sholten made it 5-0 before Johnson completed his hat trick with a shorthanded goal at the 11:40 mark.

On the down side, Escanaba's Hunter Allen was whistled for three penalties and Owen LaBonte went to the box twice. Senior Cully Hayes stopped all 25 shots for the shutout in the Eskymo net, while Dow goaltender Aesa made 26 saves on 32 shots.

Midland Dow finished the weekend with a 1-1-1 record, after tying Marquette Friday night.

The Eskymos improved to 2-1-0 on the season, and will be on the road Tuesday night against the Painesdale-Jeffers Jets. That game will face off at 6:00 in Houghton.

After that, Escanaba travels down to Traverse City for games on Friday (against Traverse City Central), and Saturday (against Riverview Gabriel Richard).

In other Upper Peninsula high school hockey games on Saturday, the Jeffers Jets beat the Novi Wildcats from Detroit, 6-2, at Michigan Tech University; the Howell Highlanders went back downstate with a 4-0 win over Calumet at the Colosseum; the Marquette Sentinels blasted the Traverse City West Titans, 6-1; the Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils completed a weekend sweep over the Cadillac Vikings, 3-1; and the Houghton Gremlins beat the Traverse City Central Trojans, 6-1.
