Marquette Marathon Held Under Sunny Conditions
This story was written by NMU Sports Information MARQUETTE---The 2024 Marquette Marathon wrapped up on Saturday afternoon at the Superior Dome, with Adam Martin Caldwell (Wilder, Vermont) taking home first place in the marathon. A professional cross country skier for five years, Martin Caldwell took home overall first place in the marathon, besting the rest of the field by over 23 minutes with a time of 2:19:27.79 (5:19 pace). It was the second best time in Marquette Marathon history and less than four minutes off of the record of 2:15:31 from Doug Kurtis in 1981. In the half marathon, Ian Torchia (Ann Arbor, Michigan) captured first overall with a time of 1:09.57.8. Qwynn Darnell (Rapid City, Michigan) repeated as the victor in the Wildcat 5K, posting a time of 17:16.2. There were nearly 1,300 participants across all the events, with just over 550 of those participating in each of the marathon and half marathon races. There were also over 100 runners in the Wildcat 5K and over 50 participants in the Pebble Run on Friday.
