IRONWOOD---The Gogebic Community College Samsons men's basketball team shook off a sluggish start and posted a 50-46 win over the Vermillion (Minn.) Ironhawks Saturday night in Ironwood. It took more than nine minutes for the Samsons to score a basket, and the Ironhawks managed only six points during that period of time. In the first nine minutes of the game, the two teams combined to score just seven points, and they combined for 13 personal fous. The Ironhawks closed to within 39-38 with 5:35 left, but a Trevon Clark jumper made it 41-38, and a Braxton Sbraggia triple made it a 44-38 GCC lead with just over four minutes left on the clock. With the Samsons clinging to a 44-42 lead down the stretch, Clark swished another mid-range jumper to put Gogebic up by two possessions with 1:46 left in the game. London iced the game with his second dunk of the contest with ten seconds left, and Gogebic advanged last week's loss to Vermillion up in northern Minnesota. GCC improved to 4-4 on the season. |
