Eagles Win 1st U.P. Cross Country Title Since 2012
GLADSTONE---The Stephenson High School boys cross country team captured the school's first MHSAA Upper Peninsula cross country championship since 2012 on Saturday, taking the top spot by nine points over Engadine, 77-86. Republic-Michigamme was third with 89 points. "In D-3 there’s so many schools without full teams. We couldn’t settle for passing just one runner. The weather was perfect and the boys came in with a good mindset.” Dollar Bay senior Amos Norland was the medalist with a school-record 16:44.18, followed by Pickford’s Hayden Hagen (18:00.14) and Munising sophomore Trevor Nolan (18:04.1). As for Stephenson, Griffin Brown finished fourth in 18:29, and fellow senior Jacob Ross was ninth (19:13). Freshman Canon Kuntze also reached the podium by finishing 15th in 19:40. |
