TIRED? Nah, Esky Softball Wins Two More Games
NORWAY---The Escanaba High School softball team played two more games on Thursday, and picked up two more wins, 5-0 and 14-0, at Marion Park. The Eskymos have played every single day (even Sunday) and have played 12 games since last Saturday. In the opener, freshman Grayson LaMarche was dominant, throwing a complete game four-hit shutout. LaMarche struck out 17 batters, and did not walk anyone. Kari Stanchina threw well for Norway, keeping the Knights within 1-0 into the fifth inning before the Eskymos pulled away. Stanchina was charged with five runs on eleven hits. Escanaba took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when LaMarche tripled to right field and scored on a bunt by Abby Hill. In the fifth inning, Paxton Bullen smacked a double to center field to bring in the second run, and then Anna Boutlier's sacrufice fly scored another in the sixth. The Eskymos added two more runs on RBI singles by Hill and Carney Salo. The second game was not nearly as close. McKayla Mott was dominant both in the circle and at the plate. She threw a one-hitter as pitcher, striking out ten batters in the five inning game. And at the plate, Mott had a three-run homer, a two-run homer, and six runs batted in. Bullen also added three hits and three runs batted in, and Carsyn Segorski had two hits, a walk, and scored three times. Norway has been having a nice season in Dickinson County, but fell to 18-7 after the two losses. Escanaba, meanwhile, had played only 12 games through May 12th, thanks to nearly a dozen games being cancelled by bad weather. But they have played 12 in the last six days, winning ten of them. The Eskymos are now 21-3 on the season. The Eskymos have tied a school record for home runs in a season with 36. They've hit 23 of those home runs in the past week. Friday is a kind-of-off-day. The girls will be traveling downstate to Grand Rapids, where they will play three more games in the Michigan Blue Chip tournament. |
