Daniela Iacobelli started the final round six shots off the lead in a share of thirteenth at the 2019 Island Resort Championship. Posting a 7-under-par, 65, on Sunday was enough to put her atop the leaderboard to force a two-person playoff. The Escanaba Eskymos finished second at the Division One girls Upper Peninsula golf championships on Wednesday at Sweetgrass. Menominee won the team title. Escanaba’s Paxton Johnson won her fourth straight UP title. She shot a 76, eleven strokes clear of second place Emma Hofer of Menominee. Marquette's Morgan Rhodes (96) was third. The Maroons had 385 strokes. Escanaba was second with 412. Negaunee was third with 449, Menominee was fourth (455) and Houghton (478) took fifth place.
Former Escanaba High School golfer Johnny Kositzky finished his sophomore season of college golf on Monday with a career-best as his Wisconsin Lutheran College team competed in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference championships in Aurora, Ill. Kositzky shot a 73, good for one over par, and a 12th place finish for the tournament. He finished with a four-day total of 315 strokes (85-81-76-73). Escanaba High School senior golfer Paxton Johnson has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend school and play golf at Northern Michigan University. Johnson has won the MHSAA Fivision One Upper Peninsula championship three straight years, and will be trying for the clean sweep this spring. She plans to study biochemistry at Northern.
