Gussert Tops All-U.P. List; Esky's LaFave Honored

ESCANABA---The Upper Peninsula Sportwriters and Sportscasters Association has released its All-U.P. girls basketball teams for the 2012-13 season.

The Marquette Redettes (Class A-B), Houghton Gremlins (Class C), and St. Ignace Saints (Class D) were named Teams of the Year in their respective classes. Marquette's Ben Smith and St. Ignace's Doreen Ingalls were named Coaches of the Year.

Forest Park junior Lexi Gussert was an unanimous choice for Class D Player of the Year, while Houghton's Elisa Jurmu was the Class C Player of the Year.

Locally, Escanaba sophomore Michelle LaFave was picked on the Class A-B-C First Team. Bark River-Harris's Sarah Madalinski, Carney-Nadeau's Casey Charlier, and Superior Central's Teslyn Tinner were on the Class D First Team.

And Superior Central junior Vanessa Freberg made the All-Class "Dream Team".
