Escanaba Girls Fall To DeTour In Home BB Finale

ESCANABA---Three Escanaba Eskymos girls basketball players had their last game on their home court on Saturday, and for much of the game, it looked like the girls might end their home careers on a high note. But the DeTour Red Raiders had other ideas.

The Raiders from the Eastern U.P. went on a 15-2 run in the fourth quarter to break a 33-33 tie, and the visitors went on to post a 50-42 victory on Eskymo Senior Day.

Codi Jenshak (4) played her last Eskymo basketball home game on Saturday.
Three seniors: Codi Jenshak, Jessica Beauchamp, and Zoe Berquist were all honored on Saturday, and they all played well during this non-conference contest.

At one point in the second quarter, the Eskymos built a 12-point lead, and they led at halftime.

But things turned in the second half as the Raiders started to hit from downtown. They caught the Eskymos at 30-30, and then DeTour took the lead on a three-pointer by Lindsey Grzesiak.

Michelle LaFave retied the game for Escanaba with a three of her own, but Rachel Hoffman scored from inside to give DeTour a 35-33 lead.

DeTour led, 39-35, when Grzesiak scored seven straight points to give the Raiders a double-digit lead. The Raiders then took a  48-35 lead before Jenshak nailed a three with 1:43 left to cut it to ten.

But the Eskymos could not mount a late comeback, and lost the home finale.

Grzesiak led the Raiders with 16 points. Hoffman added ten points and Alisa Anderson scored nine. Escanaba got 11 points from Jenshak, 10 from Berquist, and LaFave had nine.

DeTour improved to 16-2 on the season. Escanaba fell to 4-15.

The Eskymos close the regular season on Thursday at Menominee.
