Munising Makes Key Plays Late To Top Bark River

HARRIS---The Bark River-Harris Broncos boys basketball team has been "close" so many times this season that surely, somewhere down the line, the Basketball Gods would start to smile on Bronco Nation. Unfortunately, Tuesday night was not the night.

The Broncos had the lead for most of the night against the Munising Mustangs, but when the big plays were needed down the stretch, it was the visitors that came away with a 49-43 Central U.P. Conference victory.

BR-H's Kyle Kleiman (40) with the lay-up.
This game was one of only six boys games played across the Upper Peninsula Tuesday night as many contests were postponed by ice.

BR-H had the lead for most of this game's 32 minutes, leading 12-9 after one quarter, 19-16 at the halftime break, and 35-34 after three quarters of play.

But the Mustangs outscored the Broncos, 6-2, to start the fourth quarter, taking a 40-37 lead.

The Broncos trailed by two points in the final minute, but missed a key lay-up that would have tied the game.

Munising salted it away at the foul line in the final seconds. The Mustangs made 18 of 27 free throw attempts in the game, something that tipped the game in its favor.

Kyle Kleiman led the Broncos with 14 points and six rebounds. BR-H freshman Cody Van Brocklin added ten points, including two three-point baskets.

Munising was led by Gage Webster, who had a game-high 22 points. He made 10 of his 12 free throw attempts in the second half. Ben Staseuich added 13 points for Munising.
