STATE CHAMPIONS! Manistique Bantams On Top
 CADILLAC---The Manistique State Savings Bank Under-14 (Bantam B) hockey team won a state championship on Sunday, turning back the Gladwin Gladiators, 5-3, in Cadillac. The boys made it through a COVID-19 season after having last season cancelled. Carsyn Hinkson and Gavin Nutkins both had two goals and an assist. Austin Hinkson scored the first goal of the game for Manistique, unassisted, to make it 1-0. In the second period, Carsyn Henkson scored both of his goals, befor Nutkins scored his first goal. Drew vonMatt countered for Gladwin, but Manistique led, 4-1, going to the final period. Isaac Wheeler brought Gladwin to within 4-2 in the third period, before Nutkins scored his second goal. Jeffery Zeltz scored the Gladiators' final goal. The Manistique team also includes platers from Newberry and Munising. They knocked out Sault Ste. Marie in Sunday's semifinal game. MARQUETTE WINS TWO SATTE TITLES---The U.P. has two more MAHA hockey state champions! Marquette's Main Street Pizza 18U BB Junior Wildcats hockey team beat the Big Boy Hockey Club from the Detroit suburb of Fraser. 5-1, Sunday in Grand Rapids....and down in Port Huron, the Marquette Superior Hockey 12U team beat Kennsinton Valley, 3-1, to bring home the hardware. |
