Escanaba Girls Beat Shorthanded Gladstone, 7-1
ESCANABA---The Escanaba Eskymos girls tennis team knocked off the Gladstone Braves, 7-1, on Friday, in a matchup that saw the Braves play without three of their usual players and the Eskymos down one player. "Nice win today. It was unfortunate that both teams were without usual players from their varsity lineups," Escanaba Coach Chris Ogren said, "Addison Trombley for Gladstone played a great match against Ukiah Penegor today, where she made very few errors in route to a straight set win." Trombley won, 6-1, 6-3. Escanaba won the other three singles matches, with Jacey Moreau beating Katie Matthews, 6-0, 6-0, at #1 singles, and Sophia Derkos winning over youngster Rachel Krouth, also, 6-0, 6-0. At #4 singles, Amanada Beem beat Gladstones Mandee Barron, 6-0, 6-1. The Eskymos won all four doubles matches. There were also some JV matches on Friday. "Faith Lancour was able to play her first singles match at JV in over a month today and she won her set in a tiebreaker (7-3). This is Faith’s senior year, her first year in tennis, and we are certainly happy that she came out this year," Ogren said. "Alivia Royer and Violet Hawn were also able to get a win in a JV match today." Overall, Ogren was pleased, despite the absence of some players. "Great tennis today from both the Varsity and JV levels." |
