Escanaba Tennis Sweeps Singles; Tops Kingsford
 KINGSFORD---The Escanaba High School girls tennis team won all four singles flights and beat the Kingsford Flivvers, 5-3, Thursday afternoon in Kingsford. "We swept singles today, with really good tennis from 1 through 4 singles. All four girls played really well today and were able to get straight set wins," Escanaba Coach Chris Ogren said. "On the doubles side, we were able to get a tough 3 set win at 3 doubles. It was a close match all the way through that could have gone either way." Escanaba's singles were dominant, as Jacey Moreau defeated Maggie Meneghini, 6-1, 6-0; Sophia Derkos beat Maegan Dooley, 6-0, 6-0; Ukiah Penegor stopped Kylie Mitchell, 6-0, 6-2; and Amanda Beem outlasted Ashley Demay, 6-4, 6-3. Escanaba's lone win at doubles was the marathon between Delaney McIntyre and Leslie Purcell, and Kingsford's Brooke Bittinger and Macy Holmes. The Eskymos won the #3 doubles flight, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. "Delaney and Leslie really rallied in the third set and played good fundamental (tennis)," Ogren said. Kingsford won the other three doubles flights, with Liz Penegor and Jenna Olkkonen winning over McKenna Bullen and Lillia Hughes at second doubles, 6-3, 6-2. At first doubles, Kingsford's Teagan Petschar and Lizzy Cross won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, over Erica Moore and Madi Mishica. And Kingsford's #4 doubles team of Mryanda Golla and Karlee Hulkkonen won in straight sets over Sam Manninen and Anna Valiquette, 6-4, 6-1. OTHER THURSDAY U.P.
