Bay College Baseball Team Falls Twice To Miami
The Bay College Norse baseball team got a great pitching performance from Kyler Moir on Tuesday, but the lack of clutch hitting and shoddy sixth inning defense caused the Norse to lose to Miami ASA College, 7-1, in West Palm Beach. The Norse then dropped the nightcap, 16-0. After a morning rain delayed the start by over an hour, Bay lost what was a close game throughout by a final of 8-1, before the Silver Storm dominated the night cap with a 16-0 victory. ASA took the lead in the bottom of the first inning to start the day. With two outs they got an RBI single from Eduardo Castillo (SO, Santo Domingo, DR) to take the lead. After that point Moir settled in nicely and kept the Silver Storm offense off balance. In the first five innings he allowed just three hits and four walks, while striking out five. The Bay offense was unable to take advantage of Moir's work however, as they stranded 11 runners throughout the contest.
Moir took the hard luck loss after a stellar performance. Only two of the eight runs he was credited with were earned. Shaw Bowser (FR, Toronto, ON) worked two thirds of an inning in relief. ASA sent three pitchers to the mound in game one. Javier Manganelly (FR, Hialeah, FL) picked up the win. He started and threw four innings of scoreless baseball. Lucas Weinert (SO, Gladstone, MI), Ben Snyder (SO, Powers, MI), Jared Crow (FR, Gladstone, MI), and Goebert all recorded multi-hit games for the Norse. In the second game the Silver Storm took advantage of some young Norse pitchers getting their first action on the mound this season. Crow got the start and was not sharp in his pitching debut. He gave up six hits, five walks, and seven runs in two innings of work, before handing the ball off in the third. Meanwhile the Norse bats went silent. They would get just three hits in the contest, and only really threaten to score in the seventh. The Norse will look to snap a four-game skid Wednesday morning as they take on the College of Lake County at 10 am in Vero Beach. They then face Nyack College at 1 pm. |
