DISTRICT CHAMPS AGAIN: Trudeau Leads Braves
GLADSTONE---Taylor Trudeau slugged a solo home run and added an RBI double to help the Gladstone Braves beat the Iron Mountain Mountaineers, 6-2, in the MHSAA Division Three softball district championship game on Saturday. Iron Mountain beat Menominee, 10-3, earlier in the day, while Gladstone received a bye after the Manistique Emeralds dropped out of the tournament on Thursday. In her third at-bat, she smoked another shot to the fence, this time, a double that brought home Marnnea LaFave with a run in the fourth inning that gave the Braves a 4-1 lead. Earlier, Andie Balenger bunted home Morgan Letteriello in the second inning to make it 2-0, before the Mountaineers cut the lead in half when Bri Tomasoski stole second and Anna Rittenhouse scored. Balenger singled home a run to make it 3-1 in the third inning. Balenger earned the win in the cirle. Gladstone (31-6) advances to the regional tournament next Saturday in Negaunee.
