Norse Softball Drops Regional Tournament Opener
GLENDIVE, Montana---The Bay College Norse softball team fell into the loser’s bracket of the NJCAA Regional Tournament in Montana Friday, with a 5-3 loss to Dakota County Technical College. The Blue Knights scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to erase a 3-2 Norse lead. Maddy Griffin tried to ignite a rally when she smoked a leadoff double to lead off the bottom of the sixth, but she was thrown out trying to score on Claire McInerney’s fly ball to end the inning. Besides Griffin’s two doubles, Aubree Saunders had a double, and Kaitlyn Hardwick, Richelle Vandeville, and McInerney all had singles. Rhiley Hubert threw 5 2/3 innings and took the loss in the circle, giving up five runs (one earned) on six hits. She walked three and struck out two. Lexi Winling pitched the final 1 1/3 innings in relief and yielded one base hit. The Norse (25-8) will face fellow U.P. team Gogebic Community College in a loser’s bracket game Saturday at noon. Gogebic lost its opener, 9-2, to Lake Region College. For Bay to win the regional, the ladies will need to win twice on Saturday and three more times on Sunday. |
