'DIRTY WIN': Braves Slip Past Mountaineers, 50-35

GLADSTONE---The Gladstone High School girls basketball team picked up a 50-35 win over the Iron Mountain Mountaineers Thursday in Gladstone. It was a grind-it-out performance, one that Coach Andy Cretens called a "dirty win".

Gladstone fell behind, 12-5, in the first quarter, but rebounded to take a 24-19 lead at halftime. The Braves sprinted to a 44-34 lead after three quarters before the Mountaineers, playing without top scorer Riley Poupore, made a fourth quarter charge.

Iron Mountain closed to within 37-33 midway through the fourth quarter on a driving lauyup by Saylor Swartout.

But the Braves responded with the 1-2 punch of Maddie Ahlgren and Megan Crow, who helped to ignite a 13-2 run to end the game.

Ahlgren led all scorers with 18 points, while Crow contrubuted 16 points. The Braves made 18 of their 20 free throw attempts and improved to 10-8 on the season. Gladstone has now won ten out of eleven games after starting the season with seven straight losses.

Reagan Lundhlom led the Mountaineers (7-13) with 14 points. Swartout scored ten.
