Mattson Gets 200th Win As NMU Wins In Overtime
BIG RAPIDS, Mich.---The Northern Michigan University Women's Basketball team visited Ferris State University in their first of five road contests to end the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season and came away with a 70-66 victory in double overtime. The victory gave Head Coach Troy Mattson his 200th career victory. The Wildcats were led by senior Darby Youngstrom (Cook, Minn.), who posted a career-high 25 points. She also led the team with eight rebounds and four steals. Sophomore Lexi Smith (St. Germain, Wis.) tallied 18 points, six rebounds and four assists. Junior Baleigh Delorit (Algoma, Wis.) knocked in a career-high five three-pointers to give her a career-high 15 points. Junior Jessica Schultz (Mineral Point, Wis.) notched eight rebounds and also had a team high of six assists. She tied senior Sydney Dillinger (Houghton, Mich.) with two blocks while also dishing out four assists. With 1:37 to go, the hosts made a three-pointer to cut the NMU lead down to 65-64. Schultz responded with a free throw but the Bulldogs followed with a jumper to tied the score at 66-66 with 58 seconds to play. Smith then made a layup to give NMU a 68-66 lead with 44 seconds. On the next FSU possession, Lutz stole the ball. Schultz soon added two more free throws and the Bulldogs were unable to score again to give NMU a 70-66 victory. |
