TRAPPED: Broncos Turn Up Defense; Beat Knights

HARRIS---The Bark River-Harris Broncos used an aggressive half-court trap and outscored the Norway Knights, 13-4, in the fourth quarter to post a 42-33 win Monday night in Harris. The Broncos swept the season series from the Knights.

Hunter Debelak and Nick Javurek both scored eleven points and Riley Bray had a clutch "and one" basket in the fourth quarter for the Broncos. Bray, a transfer from Escanaba High School, made his presence felt with his defense on that half-court trap.

"Riley Bray, a newcomer from Esky, definitely stepped up big-time and made a couple of big plays at the end," Debelak said. "He hustled his butt off. We're very fortunate to have him. We made our free throws at the end, and that was a big turnaround."

The Knights led, 23-18, midway through the second quarter before things slowed down considerably on the offensive end.

The Broncos managed to tie the game, 23-23, at halftime, and the two teams both scored six points in the third quarter.

That's when the Broncos switched to a trap, and the Knights had trouble getting the ball across the half-court line.  Javurek put the team ahead to stay with a pair of baskets, and Debelak had a basket and two foul shots during that fourth quarter rally.

"We came out in the half-court press and trap and they weren't realy for it," BR-H senior Broc Stenberg said. "They just fell apart when we were trapping them, and they made a lot of turnovers and we scored off if it. We haven't practiced it much, so for not having practiced it much, I think we did a good job. It worked."

Norway was led by sophomore Logan Parolini, who made four three-point baskets for 12 points.

Three of those triples came in the first quarter.

BR-H improved to 6-6 on the season, and will face arch-rival North Central this Friday night in Powers. That game will be broadcast live on Eagle 107.3 FM, and on-line at www.radioresultsnetwork.com. Norway fell to 4-6 on the season.
