SWEET REVENGE: Eskymo Girls Smother Broncos
HARRIS---The Escanaba Eskymos scored the first 12 points of the game and cruised past the Bark River-Harris Broncos, 43-26, in girls basketball action Friday night in Harris. The Eskymos handed Bark River-Harris its first loss of the season, and Escanaba avenged an earlier loss to the Broncos. "They were really unselfish tonight." The Eskymos were happy to avange that earlier loss to their Delta County rivals. "We knew that we could play better than we did at home," Escanaba senior Lexi Chaillier said. "We were really off that night, and it wasn't really a 'team effort' game. We knew that our defense had to be a lot better, because we knew that Bark River has a lot of good girls who aren't afraid to drive on us. That was our main thing. Mostly, defense, and being smart on offense." The Broncos chipped into the 12-0 deficit to close to within 15-10 early in the second quarter, but never could get any closer. Escanaba led, 26-15, at halftime, and led, 38-23, going to the fourth quarter. Neither team could score much in the final quarter. Cassidi Stannard, who transferred to Escanaba last year but went back to Bark River-Harris this year, led the Broncos with 12 points. Kamin led Escanaba with 11. Escanaba improved to 6-5 on the season. Bark River-Harris fell to 9-1. Click the thumbnails in the ARTICLE HIGHLIGHTS box above to see photos and videos, and hear comments from Chaillier and Eagle. |
