Veteran Driver Dies In Norway Speedway Accident

NORWAY---Officials from Norway Speedway are planning to resume racing Saturday night, August 18 following the untimely crash and death of veteran jet dragster driver Doug Rose at the track Friday night.

 

Rose’s machine veered into turn one and crashed into the guardrail in turn one and flipped over. This happened during an exhibition run after the national anthem. Rose was pronounced dead at the scene. The races immediately were canceled by the Dickinson County Racing Association (DCRA) board of directors.

 

“Norway Speedway would like to offer our deepest condolences to Doug’s family,” said Norway Speedway’s John Ostermann. “We also want to commend the Norway Fire Department, Beacon Ambulance Service and the Michigan State Police and the track safety crews for dealing with this extremely difficult situation. With the trauma and delay of the situation and all things concerned we had no choice but to suspend the program.”

 

Tonight’s program will pick up where it left off. Qualifying was completed Friday night and the entire racing program, beginning with the Coca Cola late model dash will commence promptly at 6 p.m. The pit area will open at 3 p.m. with the main grandstands opening at 5 p.m.
