WILLIAMSPORT-BOUND: Grosse Pointe Boys Roll
WESTFIELD, Ind.---The Grosse-Pointe Woods Shores Little League (age 11-12) won the Great Lakes Regional Championship Saturday night, 13-0, over New Albany, Ind., in suburban Indianapolis. The game was called after four innings by the mercy rule. One family who will be going for a second straight summer is the Hill family. Drew Hill was a big part of the GPWS state and regional championship last year, and on Saturday, it was Brennan Hill's turn. He blasted a two-run homer and was also the winning pitcher on the mound. Hill carried a perfect game into the fourth inning, but gave up a misjudged fly ball that was scored a double, and he walked the next batter. The GPWS biggest offensive threat continued to be Jarren Purify, who has been scorching opposing pitchers all summer long. He launched a very long two-run homer in his second time at the plate. The Indiana team chose to intentionally walk Purify three times. Grosse Pointe had 13 base hits in the game. Grosse Pointe represents Michigan and the Central (Great Lakes) Region at the Little League World Series starting next Thursday. Details at www.littleleague.org.
