LONG TIME COMING: Escanaba Beats Menominee
MENOMINEE---The last time this happened, Bill Clinton was the president of the United States and not everybody had a phone in their hip pocket. The Escanaba High School football team beat the Menominee Maroons in football Friday night. And they did it inside the forbidding walls of Walden Blesch Stadium. The Eskymos scored 21 unanswered points in the second half, and shut out the Maroons' singlewing offense, and posted an inspiring 42-21 victory. The win gave the Eskymos the inside track to the Great Northern Conference championship, a 5-1 overall record, and a lot of momentum heading into next Friday night's showdown against Gladstone. Craig Kamin's 58-yard touchdown pass to Josh Grassel broke the 21-21 tie in the third quarter, moments after the Eskymos had a gialine stand against the Maroon offense. Logan Carroll and Scout Wunder added rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Both boys had two touchdown runs on the night, and Kamin had two touchdown passes, with one coming to Ryan Robinette early in the game. Christer Carne made all six of his extra point kicks for the Eskymos. Ethan Mileski threw for one touchdown and scored another on a long kickoff return for the Maroons, who well to 4-2 on the season. Jake Rivard also scored for Menominee. Nest week's Escanaba-Gladstone game will be played in Escanaba next Friday night at 7:00, and it will be broadcast live on WGKL-FM (105.5) and WCHT-AM (600). |
