Gladstone Rolls Past Negaunee For Third Win, 43-0
GLADSTONE---The Gladstone High School football team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 43-0 win over the Negaunee Miners Friday night in Gladstone. The Braves are now one of just four undefeated 11-man teams in the Upper Peninsula, with Westwood, Norway, and Hancock being the others. Quarterback Darin Johnson ran for four touchdowns and Owen Hanson scored another on the ground as the Braves rushed for just under 300 yards. The Braves also scored on three C.J. Charlebois extra point kicks and an 18-yard "pick six" by Cooper Cavedeas. Hanson's 55-yard touchdown run got the Braves on the board with less than a minute left in the first quarter. Two of Johnson's runs were long scampers, while the other two were short, and he completed five passes to four different receivers. Johnson and Hanson both rushed for more than 100 yards. Negaunee's top rusher, Jake Hill, ran ten times for 55 yards. The Miners (0-3) struggled all night long against the Gladstone defense, with sophomore quarterback Jason Waterman completing six passes but for minimal yardage. Next week's Braves game against Westwood will be more than just a battle of 3-0 teams. The teams will honor our veterans, with all proceeds going toward the U.P. Honor Flight. The Braves will be wearing "Digital Camo Jerseys". There will be a silent auction for these jerseys during the game, and they will be given out after the game. The veterans will be announced during halftime and they will come out to the field. They will be also selling T-shirts during the game. The game will be broadcast live on WGKL-FM (Kool 105.5), WCHT-AM (NewsTalk 600), and www.rrnsports.com. |
