STILL FLYING HIGH: NC Jets Overwhelm Nordics

POWERS---The North Central Jets don't appear to have lost a step.

After graduating the core of their back-to-back state championship teams, the Jets had some reloading to do entering this season. And based on their season-opener Thursday night in Powers, the Jets look like they're ready for another strong season.

NCA overwhelmed the North Dickinson Nordics, 60-0, in a game that was practically over in the first quarter, when the Jets scored 26 points.

Hunter Riley, playing in the shadow of All-Stater Jason Whitens until now, was his own star on Thursday. He completed 12 of 13 passes for 234 yards and five touchdowns.

Riley also had a rushing touchdown.

Fellow senior Lucas Dombowski also had a big night, catching a pair of touchdown passes and making a crunching tackle on defense.

Shaun Gogolewski was a big target at the tight end position, catching a pair of touchdowns. He also made several tackles on defense in the first half.

Trenton Schaff had a 26-yard touchdown run before being injured on a late hit out of bounds. Schaff's ankle injury is not severe, and he should be ready to play next week.

For North Dickinson, it the school's first-ever "eight-man" game, and the Nordics struggled throughout the night. They made it into Jets territory only twice, with the best drive falling short at the 12 yard-line on the final play of the first half.

North Central has a stiff challenge next week as Crystal Falls Forest Park comes to town for a game that starts at 6:30.
