MT. PLEASANT, Mich.---Special Olympics Michigan is proud to announce that 36 athletes have been named to Team Michigan for the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games being held July 1-6, 2018 in Seattle, Washington.

"We are extremely proud of our athletes and coaches for being selected to Team Michigan," said Lois Arnold, President and CEO for Special Olympics Michigan. "This is an amazing opportunity for them to represent Michigan on the national stage!"

Members of Team Michigan were selected from first place finishers at the 2017 State Summer Games presented by SpartanNash that took place in Mt. Pleasant from June 1-3.

Twenty athlete roster spots still remain open on Team Michigan and will be filled by a Senior Male Basketball team and Unified Flag Football team this fall. Michigan will also send 15 coaches to the 2018 USA Games. Coaches went through an application process and will be selected this fall at the same time the remaining athlete spots are finalized.

More than 4,000 Special Olympics athletes and coaches from all 50 states and the District of Columbia will gather in Seattle in July 2018 to compete before tens of thousands of spectators and volunteers.

The 2018 USA Games will showcase the limitless talents of people with intellectual disabilities while promoting the barrier-breaking power of sport to promote inclusion and acceptance.

Competitions will be held at venues across the Seattle area including the University of Washington, Celebration Park, Kenmore Lanes, Seattle Pacific University, Seattle University, Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center and Willows Run Golf Club.
