Gladstone 9-10 Girls Wrap Up Pool Play Undefeated
BELLEVILLE, Mich.---The Gladstone Minor Girls (age 9-10) softball team won its third straight game at the state tournament in downstate Belleville on Monday, beating Evart, 5-0. Montgomery Pepin threw a two-hitter, striking out 16 batters. "Obviously, we had some concerns with the heat," Gladstone Manager Rick Pepin said. "But Montogomery pitched a clean game. She did a nice job of hitting her spots, and she kept her composure. We hit the ball right to them quite a bit today, and they made good throws. They made good plays defensively. They were solid." Gladstone scored two runs in the second inning on an error and a groundout by Morgan Dawley, briging Reese Herioux home from third base. In the fourth inning, Tia Schone led off with a hit and eventually stole home. And in the fifth inning, Rylee Gerow led off with an infield single and scored on a groundout by Maggie Buckley. Samantha Drielick also had a base hit for Gladstone. Mattisen Tiedt and Katie Gostlin had the base hits for Evart. Gladstone plays Tecumseh in the state quarterfinals on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Catch the broadcast on WCHT-AM (NewsTalk 600), and at www.rrnsports.com.
