Gladstone Girls Advance To State Quarterfinal, 14-1
BELLEVILLE, Mich.---The Gladstone Minor Girls Little League (age 9-10) softball team rolled to a 14-1 win over Kalamazoo Parchment Sunday at the state tournament in the Detroit suburb of Belleville. The win was Gladstone's second of the weekend, and qualified the girls for the state quarterfinals, regardless of how they fare in Monday's game. Montgomery Pepin threw three innings and struck out nine batters before Rylee Gerow pitched the fourth inning and fanned three. Maggie Buckley had three hits for Gladstone, including an inside-the-park home run. Addie Trombley added two hits, including a home run. Pepin had two hits to help her own cause. On Saturday, the Gladstone girls won their state tournament opener, 18-0, over Holly. Montgomery had a grand slam home run, Buckley had a home run and two other hits, and Trombley ripped a pair of triples. Gladstone finishes pool play on Monday against District 12 champion Evart, which is also 2-0 in the tournament. The result of the game will only determine seeding for the quarterfinals, as both teams are 2-0 in pool play and will advance. The game will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (NewsTalk 600) and at www.rrnsports.com, at 1:45 p.m. Click the thumbnails in the ARTICLE HIGHLIGHTS box above to see photos and a video clip from Sunday's game. |
