Finlandia University Promotes Wittenberg As A.D.

HANCOCK---Finlandia University has promoted Curtis Wittenberg to the position of Director of Athletics, effective immediately. He had been serving as Associate Director of Athletics and Compliance.

 

“No one knows Finlandia athletics better than Curtis,” President Philip Johnson said. “He has, throughout his 13-year career at Finlandia, demonstrated an extraordinary capacity for hard work and seeing initiatives through to completion. He is committed to building on the good work of his predecessors, and to making his own mark on Finlandia athletics. I am confident that Curtis can provide the leadership Finlandia needs at this time.”

 

Wittenberg replaces Kristan Schuster, who resigned for personal reasons. Assistant coach Aubrey Havlichek is now serving as the acting head coach of the university’s volleyball team.

 

Wittenberg has served in a wide variety of roles for the Finlandia University athletic department since joining the department in 2003.

 

His coaching career included time as a volunteer assistant with the women’s basketball team (2003-05), head coach of the Lions cross country program (2004-05) and head coach of the women’s basketball team (2007-10).

 

Since finishing his coaching career in 2010, he’s served a wide variety of administrative roles, including game event coordinator, sports information director, facilities coordinator, compliance officer and most recently associate director of athletics.

 

“I am excited and honored to be named director of athletics,” said Wittenberg. “I look forward to working with our great coaching staff in advancing our athletic programs into the future.”
