Eskymos Take Advantage Of Alpena Mistakes, 24-8
ALPENA---Scout Wunder scored two touchdowns and the Escanaba Eskymos took advantage of Alpena penalties and turnovers to post a 24-8 win over the Wildcats Thursday night in Alpena. Wunder scored both of his touchdowns in the first half as the Eskymos went to the locker room with a 14-0 lead. Both touchdowns were set up by Wildcat mistakes. The Wildcats fumbled on their first possession, and the Eskymos went on a long, time-consuming drive, with Wunder scoring from three yards out. In the second quarter, Alpena stopped the Eskymos in the red zone, and blocked a Paul Carne field goal attempt. A personal foul penalty, however, gave Escanaba another chance, and Wunder scored moments later on a two-yard run. Then just before halftime, Alpena had a touchdown called back on a holding penalty, and then after driving to the two-yard line, the Wildcats fumbled the ball away. In the second half, Carne connected on a 26-yard field goal to make it 17-0, then Tyler Willette scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter. The Escanaba defense lost its shutout when Alpena scored a touchdown and two-point conversion with two minutes left in the game. The Eskymos also won the junior varsity game on Thursday, 28-0, in Alpena. Escanaba has its home-opener set for next Thursday night against Petoskey. |
