Escanaba Polecats Top Channing Railroaders, 10-6

ESCANABA---The Escanaba Polecats built a big lead and then held on to beat the Channing Railroaders, 10-6, in a Wishigan League game Wednesday night in Escanaba.

Both teams played this game with the minimum of nine players, and that included the coaches of each team.

Escanaba took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on a bunt single by David Falish (with a throwing error attached), followed by a two-run single by C.J. Barron.

Channing closed to within 3-1 in the top of the third inning on an RBI single to left field by Brad Gustafson. But Escanaba rebuilt the lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the inning on a two-run hit by Falish.

The Polecars would eventually build a 10-1 lead for pitcher Jon Bintner (pictured at left), before Channing scored five runs in the final two innings.

Bintner was tagged with six runs on seven hits, but only two of the runs were earned due to three errors in those final two innings. Lane Holsworth had two hits, while Barry Holsworth, Kenny Pekarek, Gustafson, Luke Holsworth, and Wade Holsworth all had one hit apiece.

For Escanaba, Falish led the way with three base hits. Barron, Bintner, and Jack Valentine all had two hits apiece. Tyler Skufca had a double, two walks, and scored a pair of runs.
