Gladstone Drops Three Games On Wisconsin Trip
WAUSAU, Wis.---The Gladstone High School baseball team had a tough weekend in Wisconsin, dropping all three games to tough Badger State opponents. Gladstone fell to Green Bay Preble, 3-0, Friday night, before losing to Wausau West, 4-0, Saturday morning. And the Braves lost to DC Everest, 10-5, Saturday afternoon. The second game on Saturday actually got off to a good start for the Braves. After being shut out twice on the trip, Gladstone took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single to left by Ben Schwalbach and a sacrafice fly off of the bat of Hunter Botruff. Things fell apart from there, however, as pitcher Clay Cole gave up four runs in the first inning and gave way to A.J. Lundberg on the mound. The Evergreens (7-3) added three more runs in the second inning to take a 7-2 lead as the Braves had problems on defense. Gladstone got one run back in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Botruff, but DC Everest added two more runs in the bottom of the inning to go ahead, 9-3. The Braves scored a run in the top of the sixth inning when Braeden Lamberg was safe on an infield error. Trailing 9-4, Gladstone had a chance to get closer with the bases loaded and just one out. But Jared Crow struck out and Owen Hanson popped up to end the threat. Gladstone's final run came in the top of the seventh inning as Nick Trudeau got a hit down the left field line with two men on. But the Braves could get no closer. Gladstone fell to 3-7 on the season. The Braves have a doubleheader at Superior Central on Monday, and then it's a rivalry game in Escanaba against the Eskymos on Tuesday. That game starts at 5:00 and will be broadcast live on WCHT-AM (600) and rrnsports.com. We will also broadcast Braves games Thursday in Marquette and Friday against Peshtigo. |
