Braves Come Up Short As Knights Stay Unbeaten
 GLADSTONE---The Norway Knights kept their perfect early-season record intact Thursday by beating the Gladstone Braves, 4-3, at Don Olsen Field. The Knights scored a run in the top of the seventh inning on a Trey Doda hit, and then held on for the win. "They had some clutch hits," Gladstone Manager Don Lauscher said. "They played really well. They're a good team. We had guys at second and third a couple of times and couldn't score. We're just not getting the job done. And are pitching...too many walks." Norway (8-0) scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but the Braves got one back in the bottom of the first and another in the second inning, tying the game at 2-2. The Knights regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning, but an A.J. Lundberg sacrafice fly tied the game at 3-3, heading into the late innings. Lundberg started on the mound for the Braves, throwing five innings. Owen Hanson came on in relief, and then, in the final inning, freshman Jared Crow came on to pitch. "One plus for us was that Jared came in in the seventh inning and did a nice job," Lauscher said. "There were two guys on and he got two pop-ups on the infield." But the Braves could not get the tying or winning runs across the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning against Norway ace pitcher John Edwardsen. Edwardsen came on in relief of Norway's #2 pitcher, Bryce Grayvold, in the fifth inning when he walked two straight men. Gladstone (3-4) plays road games on Friday against Green Bay Preble, and then on Saturday, it's a tournament in Wausau against D.C. Everest and Menasha West, Wis. |
