Forest Park Girls Make Semifinals; Calumet Falls
MANISTIQUE---The Forest Park Trojans won a Class D state quarterfinal match over Rogers City, 3-1, Tuesday night in Manistique. That happened after Calumet fell to Traverse City St. Francis, 3-0, in the Class C state quarterfinal on the same court. In the Class C match, the Copper Kings were close in two of the three sets, but couldn't break through against the Gladiators. St. Francis pulled out th first set, 25-23, and then overwhelmed the Copper Kings, 25-16, in the second set. Calumet battled hard in the third set in an effort to extend the match, but lost, 26-24. In the Class D match, the Forest Park Trojans and Rogers City Hurons split the first two sets, with the Trojans winning the first set, 25-23, and the Hurons getting even with a 25-19 victory in Set #2. With the match tied, the Trojans got the upper hand with a 25-23 win in the third set, and then the girls from Crystal Falls put it away in Set #4, 25-16. Forest Park will travel to Kellogg Arena in downstate Battle Creek for a state semifinal match against Leland High School. It is scheduled for Thursday at 3:45 ET/2:45 CT. |
