Braves Tennis Team Battles, But Falls To Marquette

GLADSTONE---The Gladstone High School boys tennis team battled a tough Marquette team on Monday, but fell to the Redmen, 5-3, on a windy day at Pfotenhauer Park. The Braves managed to split the four doubles matches, and Ross Miron rallied to win the final two sets at #4 singles to prevent a Marquette sweep at singles.

Miron lost his first set to Marquette's Garret Lewis, 6-2. But he came back to win the next game, 6-0, and then took the match in the third, 6-4. Miron's win pleased Gladstone Tennis Coach Dan Williams, who says his team is steadily improving.

"We had some really good matches today," Williams said. "Ross has had some really long matches this year, and this one was no different, but he was able to keep grinding for every point and came out ahead. Very nice win for Ross."

Gladstone's #1 doubles team of Tyler Wells and Jeremy Kadish were in control, topping Marquette's Noah Heichel and Mike Milsna, 6-2, 6-1.

"Tyler and Jeremy had another great match." Williams said. "They continue to get better every match, and are peaking at just the right time. Their net play continues to be really strong, and they had some really good serving today as well. They play so good together as a team."

Williams was impressed with the play of his #4 doubles team of Lucian Burge and Matt Casey. They defeated Marquette's Bailey Inch and Mitchell Cannon, 6-2, 6-1.

"Matt and Lucian are really working well together as a team," Williams said. "They were really aggressive today on returning second serves and it really worked well for them today. Very happy with how they are playing."

Gladstone could have sneaked out a 4-4 tie, but Alec Miron lost to Marquette's Justin Flood in a very close match at #3 singles, 5-7, 4-6.

"He lost in a tiebreaker for the third set, but played some really consistent tennis today," Williams said. "He was going for his shots, which was great to see. He can take a lot of positives away from the match."
